Celebration

The network comes together at an Annual Conference, which has now been held twice. As well as enabling clubs and sports people to meet face-to-face, it also profiles services and support available for clubs, individuals and groups to help them progress and achieve their goals. In addition, a newsletter is being produced to profile the successes of the network, individuals and clubs and to raise awareness of opportunities for development, training, funding and wider links. This year’s conference was a great success and took place on 22 January 2008 at Newbiggin Sports and Community Centre. 106 people attended from Wansbeck and with guests from key organisations within the region. The participants included a wide variety of organisations such as sports clubs, voluntary organisations and local authority representatives. The keynote speech was presented by Trevor Hopkins, who is very involved in sport, volunteering and citizenship programmes and who was representing the Improvement and Development Agency, who see sport and culture as key tools in engaging people in regeneration and community activities which have a positive impact on their quality of life. The Conference demonstrated the dedication of many of the clubs and individuals involved as volunteers at the local level, who strive to provide opportunities for local people to participate. The next conference will be held in early 2009 so watch this website for further details.
