  • The 5-Hour Offer (Sport Unlimited)
The Sport Unlimited programme is an integral part of the Government’s PE and Sport Strategy for Young People. This is often referred to as the Five Hour Offer because the overall aim is to provide young people with five hours of sport and physical activity per week. The 5 hour offer was announced by the Prime Minister in July 2007 with a commitment of an additional £100 million over three years from 2008-2011. Wansbeck Sports Development programme will commence in September 2008 and will provide a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for young people from the ‘semi sporty population segment’ to take part in out of school hours in term time see the calender for further opportunities in your area. The year one programme will operate from September 2008 to March 2009 with overall leadership and strategic co-ordination of the programme being provided by the Northumberland Sport Core Team. Sport Unlimited is particularly targeted at the age groups that evidence shows are more likely to drop out of sport and physical activity – those aged 10-12 (the transition from KS2 to KS3) and those aged 14-19. However the programme can be accessed by anyone who is aged 5-19 years.
  • Curriculum Delivery
Wansbeck Sport currently have a team of dedicated staff delivering curriculum and extra curriculum activities within schools across Wansbeck. Wansbeck Sport currently contribute to the 5 hour offer by ensuring each school in the district achieve 2 hours of high quality PE. Wansbeck Sport also deliver a variety of after school clubs to help students achieve the additional 3 hours. The current target for 2008 is to have at least 85% of school children participating in 2 hours of high quality PE, through successfull partnership working we are currently exceeding this target.
