Newbiggin Bay Sprint Triathlon – 13th September 2009

Well done to everyone who completed the inaugural Newbiggin Bay Triathlon – we had a number of competitors completing their very first Triathlon or their very first open water triathlon – congratulations, you are now Triathletes!

The race enjoyed tremendous support from the local community with literally hundreds of people around the event course cheering competitor’s on – feedback from everyone has been overwhelming and is very much appreciated.

The Organisers would like to thank all the Marshals who did a superb job, Sailing Club, RNLI & Blyth Life Guards, Lucozade Sport and everyone who supported the race. Next year will be bigger and better!

The overall winner was Ian Simon (Alnwick Tri) with David Trunbull and Ian Walton 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Leading female was Natelie Batey (Ryton Tri) followed closely by Emma Pearson and then Clare Jackson.

Special mention to our youngest competitor, Gregg Chambers, 15 years old, well done.

Sunday 26th April 2009: Ashington Sprint Triathlon Results.

The organisers wish to thank all the marshals who supported the race, without whom there would be no races.

The race was won by Rob West in a closely fought contest, posting a finish time of 60 mins 44 secs, followed by Andrew Macrae 26 secs later, who posted the fastest bike split of the day, an impressive 33 mins 24 secs. Third place was Eliot Gowland and first vet Michael Golightly.

Jane Mooney was the fastest women on the day, finishing in 69min 52secs, with second place decided by the thinnest possible margin, 1 second, with Michelle Woodley just ahead of Emma Pearson. Wow! First woman’s vet was Sandra Thompson.

The fastest swim of the day was Tony Weed, as expected, followed by Len Mann, and in third place, Jordan Baker, a youth doing his first triathlon, eased through the 400m swim in 5:17 completing the event in an impressive 87 mins 39secs – well done!.

Fastest run was Michael Strikson, posting 19:57 for the 5K; not bad for Category K vet! Well done and tell me your secret.
